Dr. Dresler leads the Donders Sleep & Memory Lab. He was trained in Biopsychology, Philosophy and Mathematics at Ruhr University and received his PhD from the Philipps University of Marburg in Germany; and conducted postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry (Germany), Oxford University (UK) and Stanford University (USA), respectively, before joining the Donders Institute in 2013. He is elected member of the Young Academy of the German National Academy of Sciences. His research is focused on the cognitive neuroscience of sleep, including cognitive processes occurring during sleep and the role of sleep for memory processes, neuroplasticity and general cognitive functioning (https://dreslerlab.org )
报告摘要:
Memory skills differ considerably across the general population – from age-related memory loss to the outstanding feats of memory champions. Memory research focuses largely on normal or impaired memory, whereas little is known about the cognitive and neurobiological basis of exceptional memory skills. I will present insights from a series of studies on the world’s leading memory champions, and naïve subjects undergoing mnemonic training. Our studies suggest that the outstanding skills of memory champions rely on mnemonic strategies that allow a more efficient neural processing of information. Moreover, training in these strategies drives brain activity towards the neural patterns observed in memory champions.
