Abstract:Time delay process is based on the observation that many physiological processes (e.g. heart beat) are coupled into the signals of fMRI (i.e. BOLD) and near infrared spectroscopy (e.g. oxyhemoglobin concentration changes) through fluctuations in the blood. Many of these fluctuations are carried by the blood to different parts of the brain and the body. Time delay process is a method to recover these dynamic informations and use them as biomarker to assess human physiology, such as perfusion, or denoising fMRI/fNIRS signal to expose real neuronal activation. Dr. Frederick’s talk will cover this methodology in detail, especially about systemic low frequency oscillations in BOLD signals. In my talk, I will concentrate on how these dynamic physiological signals affect the detection of resting state networks (RSN). Furthermore, I will introduce the methodologies to correct them and improve the accuracy of RSNs.
