报告摘要:In the talk, the speaker will present work on the neural systems underlying eye movements in humans by drawing upon experimental pharmacological and functional neuroimaging approaches. Nicotine, an agonist at the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, improves antisaccade performance and leads to reduced frontal eye field activation. Methylphenidate, a dopamine transporter blocker, improves smooth pursuit and improves the timing of predictive saccades. At the level of brain function, nicotine and methylphenidate show opposing effects in frontal eye field during smooth pursuit. Ketamine, an uncompetitive NMDA receptor antagonist used to model symptoms of schizophrenia, impairs smooth pursuit and reduces occipital and frontal activations. To conclude, (i) cognitive enhancers have beneficial effects on aspects of eye movement control, (ii) the ketamine model of psychosis is partly validated by oculomotor biomarkers, and (iii) oculomotor control is sensitive to alterations in the levels of acetylcholine, dopamine and glutamate.
