Research Description

Prof. Zhang’s current research work focus on the cognitive aging and brain health, and studying the mechanism of the cognitive function and brain characteristics in elderly, establishing the early warning system of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and employing the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment. Prof. Zhang launched the Beijing Aging Brain Rejuvenation Initiative (BABRI) project in 2008. Since then, BABRI has preliminarily established cognitive aging norms for Chinese native senior citizens, revealed the incidence and risk factors of mild cognitive impairment, and systematically identified their specific neural characteristics, which may potentially serve as biomarkers for early detection before the onset of the disease. After more than 10 years of dedicated research, the dementia risk screening technology platform has been established to address the bottleneck of early screening for community cognitive impairment. It has been popularized and used in many hospitals and communities across the country, which has greatly increased the awareness rate of dementia risk and greatly promoted the whole course management of "early knowledge, early detection, early warning and early intervention" for cognitive disability-related diseases.
